Aloha everyone,
If you’ve driven Alii Drive recently, you may have noticed something new—yes, a portion of the road has officially shifted to one-way as part of the County’s new pilot program.
I drove through today to see it firsthand.
-
Over 40 new diagonal parking stalls have been added—and almost all were occupied.
-
That shows the County did a solid job promoting the change, and people are responding.
-
These stalls are intended for customers, to help bring more foot traffic back to Alii Drive’s shops and restaurants—not for employee parking.
The goal of this initiative is to make Alii Drive more vibrant, more accessible, and more welcoming for both residents and visitors. Of course, as with any community effort, it will only work if people respect the system and use it as intended.
Let’s hope the pilot proves successful—for our local businesses, for the community, and for the long-term livability of this iconic stretch of coastline.
Here’s to a more walkable, welcoming Alii Drive.
